BOSTON — A special Red Sox game calls for a special ceremonial first pitch.

Boston played its annual Patriots’ Day game at Fenway Park on Monday against the Toronto Blue Jays, and before the matchup, fans were given a reminder of the city’s strength after the marathon bombing three years ago. Bombing survivor Jeff Bauman and actor Jake Gyllenhaal, who will play Bauman in the biopic “Stronger,” threw out the first pitches to Hanley Ramirez and David Ortiz.

“Stronger” is the story of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and how Bauman recovered physically and mentally after losing both of his legs in the blast. It’s based on Bauman’s book of the same name.
