David Ortiz and David Price weren’t exactly best buddies before they became teammates this season.
But the two quickly set aside their differences once Price joined the Boston Red Sox, and now they’re stepping up as two proven leaders on a team that has big plans for the future.
The 40-year-old Ortiz, playing his final season in Major League Baseball, long has been a vocal leader in Boston’s clubhouse. Red Sox principal owner John Henry thinks the 30-year-old Price, who got the start Monday in the Red Sox’s home opener against the Baltimore Orioles, can join Ortiz in that leadership role.
“The two Davids are very different,” Henry told NESN’s Tom Caron, as seen on “Red Sox First Pitch.” “But they bring a lot of the same things to the clubhouse, which is a relaxed feeling of leadership and confidence. (Price) has been extraordinary as a teammate thus far.”
