The 1995-96 Chicago Bulls have side-stepped the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors’ charge like the greatest of matadors.
Golden State on Wednesday defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 125-104, winning its 73rd game of the season and setting a record for most regular-season wins in NBA history.
Michael Jordan led the chorus of congratulations after the Warriors passed the mark he helped the Bulls set two decades ago. Jordan released a statement through his manager in which he declared “records are made to be broken.”
Scottie Pippen and Bill Wennington, two of Jordan’s teammates on that great Bulls team, also used Twitter to hail the Warriors’ feat.
The Warriors have unfinished business this season as they look to defend their NBA championship in the playoffs.
The old Bulls sound like gracious torch-passers now, but we bet they’ll have no problem gouging the Warriors’ reputation should Golden State fail to win it all this season.
Pippen said it himself last week: “It don’t mean a thing without the ring.”
