While the New England Patriots were making their ultimately unsuccessful push for a second consecutive Super Bowl title earlier this year, their kicker was dabbling in some detective work.
In mid-January, Stephen Gostkowski helped police track down his iPad after it was stolen from his truck parked outside his Wrentham, Mass., home, according to court records obtained this week by The Sun Chronicle.
“Gostkowski reported someone stole the iPad when his truck was broken into,” the newspaper’s David Linton wrote Thursday, “and then a few days later he noticed a half-dozen ‘selfie’ photos of a young stranger when he logged into his iCloud account, an online storage site, according to police.
“The football player kicked over the photos to police and then set about trying to locate his iPad through his Find My iPad app, a software application that uses GPS technology to locate lost or stolen iPhones or iPads.”
The search proved successful, leading police to the house of 19-year-old Ralphy Olivero in nearby Woonsocket, R.I. Olivero was arrested by Woonsocket authorities and received one year of probation after pleading no contest to a charge of receiving stolen property.
The Wrentham District Court also charged the teenager with larceny. He will be arraigned on that charge April 15, according to The Sun Chronicle.
