BOSTON — A Red Wings fan(s) managed to get a pair of octopus into TD Garden for Thursday’s game against the Boston Bruins, and both of the animals were thrown onto the ice in the third period with Detroit losing 5-1.
The first octopus was heaved onto the ice in the Bruins’ zone, and then shortly after the second one was thrown at the other end of the ice. Both tosses came from the side of the ice where the team benches are located.

The fan who tossed the second octopus was promptly taken away by security.
The Red Wings have a tradition at Joe Louis Arena that goes back many decades where a fan throws an octopus onto the ice. Back in the early days of the NHL, teams needed eight wins to claim the Stanley Cup, and octopus have eight tentacles.
