While some NFL teams decided they wouldn’t touch Laremy Tunsil with a 10-foot pole, the New York Jets apparently did all they could to get the offensive lineman.
Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reported Friday that the Jets attempted to trade up in the NFL Draft to select the offensive lineman from Ole Miss.
Tunsil was a projected top-10 pick entering the draft, but a bizarre video of what appeared to be Tunsil smoking marijuana in a gas mask surfaced just before the draft. Things got worse for Tunsil when screen shots of alleged text conversations between him and an Ole Miss coach about money were posted to Tunsil’s Instagram account.
One of the Jets’ AFC East rivals, the Miami Dolphins, ended Tunsil’s freefall by selecting him with the No. 13 pick in the first round. According to Mehta, steep prices stopped the Jets’ attempts to move up and select Tunsil.
The Jets instead stayed at No. 20 where they drafted Ohio State linebacker Darron Lee.
