If you’ve never heard of Trevor Story until now, that’s all about to change.
The Colorado Rockies were without a shortstop to start this season after trading Troy Tulowitzki at least season’s trade deadline for Jose Reyes, who’s awaiting punishment for a domestic violence case from Major League Baseball. So, in came Story, who started off his rookie season in a historic way.
The 23-year-old smacked a home run against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Coors Field on Wednesday, his third in as many days. Story is the first player in MLB history to accomplish such a feat.
The home run was actually Story’s fourth of the season, as he hit two off D-Backs starter Zack Greinke on Opening Day. The last time a player hit a home run in each of his first three games was 1900, three years before MLB was founded, according to Elias Sports Bureau.
Of course, the mile-high altitude at Coors Field makes it a perfect environment for dingers, but you definitely can’t call Story’s record a farce because of it. In fact, Tuesday’s home run was a 433-foot no doubter.
