Long after the elite runners finished at the 120th running of the Boston Marathon, Erin Hurley crossed the finish line in just under six hours.

Hurley’s husband, Boston Marathon bombing victim Jeff Bauman, was there to meet her, and the two embraced in what quickly became one of the most powerful images from Monday’s race.

Another powerful moment happened earlier in the afternoon, when bombing victim Patrick Downes finished his first marathon since losing part of his left leg in the 2013 terrorist attack. He quickly found his wife, Jessica Kensky, who also was a victim of the attack, after the race and embraced her.

Adrianne Haslet-Davis also completed the 26.2-mile race three years after losing her left leg in the bombing, and President Barack Obama thanked her for being “Boston Strong.”

Marc Fucarile lost both of his legs in the attack, and he returned as a hand cyclist for the 120th race.

Boston Strong.
