Just like Rocky Balboa in his street fight against Tommy Gunn in “Rocky V,” Tom Brady “didn’t hear no bell.” In fact, it sounds like the New England Patriots quarterback wants one more round.
Brady and the NFL Players Association added a high-profile lawyer to their legal team Friday. Theodore B. Olson reportedly will serve as an additional counsel on the NFLPA’s side for Brady’s ongoing Deflategate battle, which is notable because it suggests the 38-year-old QB will continue to fight his four-game suspension that was reinstated earlier this week by the U.S. Court of Appeals.
Olson, who served as solicitor general under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2004, represented the NFLPA in the league’s 2011 lockout. He has argued 62 cases in the Supreme Court, including the two Bush v. Gore cases that came out of the 2000 United States presidential election, and has won more than 75 percent of those arguments, according to his law firm’s website.
The NFLPA also filed a motion requesting an extension of the window to appeal the Second Circuit’s decision to reinstate Brady’s suspension. If the request is granted, the deadline for an appeal will be moved from May 9 until May 23.
Brady might be down. But he’s not yet out.
