The Connecticut Huskies are champions again.
For the 11th time in the program’s storied history and fourth consecutive season, UConn women’s basketball took home a national championship. The Huskies capped another perfect season with an 82-51 blowout win over Syracuse in the national championship.
Senior Breanna Stewart, the likely No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft, won her fourth consecutive Final Four Most Outstanding Player award after her 24-point, 10-rebound, 6-assist, 2-block effort against the Orange in the championship.
Fellow seniors Morgan Tuck and Moriah Jefferson chipped in 19 and 13 points, respectively, while Cornelia Fondren led the Orange with 16 points off the bench.
The win was the 75th consecutive victory for UConn (38-0) and capped the sixth perfect season in school history — five more than any other program in NCAA women’s basketball history. It also was the 151st win for the Connecticut senior class, a new NCAA record.
Stewart, Tuck and Jefferson all are projected as top five selections in the WNBA Draft should they choose to continue their playing careers.
