MMA fighter Jordan Parsons died Wednesday, two days after being hit by an SUV in a hit-and-run incident in Florida. He was 25.

Parsons, who was fighting in Bellator, was hit Sunday morning, according to the Delray Beach Police Department. The fighter’s entire right leg was amputated, and there was obvious concern about whether he’d pull through.

“Jordan was an exceptional athlete and a rising star in the sport. But more importantly, he was an exceptional young man,” Bellator president Scott Coker said in a statement, according to TMZ Sports.

“Jordan was hard-working, dedicated, intelligent, and a pleasure to be around. He represented all the reasons we love this sport. It is a terribly tragic loss, and our thought and prayers go out to his family, friends and teammates.”

Police still are searching for the driver of a Range Rover that struck Parsons as he was crossing a street. TMZ Sports cited officials who said Parsons was wearing headphones as he crossed the street and might not have heard the oncoming vehicle.

Parsons was 11-2 in his professional fighting career.
