Brad Marchand finished tied for third in the NHL with four short-handed goals this season, and the Boston Bruins winger added another Friday in Canada’s IIHF World Championship opener against the United States.

Marchand turned in the best performance of his career this season, finishing first on the Bruins and sixth in the NHL with a career-high 37 goals. He was the first Boston player to surpass the 35-goal plateau since Phil Kessel in 2008-09 and the first to notch 37 or more since Glen Murray potted 43 in 2002-03.

Marchand’s short-handed tally Friday closed out the scoring in a 5-1 win for Canada.
