Christian Vazquez already is one of baseball’s best defensive catchers, but the Boston Red Sox’s young backstop still is a work in progress with a bat in his hand.

Although he was batting just .241 on the season entering Thursday night, Vazquez continues to show signs that his game is coming along, like making consistent contact.
