Conor McGregor, Floyd Mayweather To Fight This September In Las Vegas?

Colin Cowherd sounds more optimistic than most.

Although there are plenty of reasons to believe a potential superfight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is nothing more than a pipe dream, Cowherd said on Monday’s episode of “The Herd” that he already booked a hotel room in Las Vegas for the weekend of Sept. 17-18. According to the FOX Sports host, that’s when everyone’s dream will become a reality.

“My intel is, Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather is going to happen,” Cowherd said. “It changed late last week. Got a call, then somebody else sent me something (Sunday) and Saturday. We booked rooms in Vegas.”

Presumably, a lot needs to be figured out before McGregor and Mayweather turn the combat sports world on its head. The idea of a mixed martial artist fighting a boxer is crazy in and of itself, and that’s before you factor in each combatant’s popularity, promotional chops and knack for generating revenue. Plus, UFC president Dana White undoubtedly will have a say in the matter.

Both McGregor and Mayweather have expressed a willingness to explore such a fight, though. So while it stills seems like a long shot, perhaps we should at least start warming up to the possibility that the bout might actually happen, even if it ultimately disappoints from an entertainment standpoint.

Cowherd suggested Monday that the news could break in about two weeks. Stay tuned.
