Derek Fisher’s Divorce Settlement With Ex-Wife Is Controversial, Costly

Derek Fisher officially is divorced after quite an interesting year, and the settlement details are interesting, too.

TMZ Sports reported Wednesday, citing court documents, that the former New York Knicks coach agreed to pay his ex-wife, Candace, $1.3 million per year in spousal support and $180,000 per year in child support. The former couple has 9-year-old twin sons, and the divorce was finalized Tuesday.

The most interesting detail, though, is Fisher and his ex-wife’s agreement to destroy embryos they had stored at a California reproductive center. It’s a controversial matter, as TMZ Sports points out, because of the debate about when a child’s life begins.

Whatever his beliefs, Fisher obviously was ready to move with his new girlfriend, Gloria Govan, the estranged wife of Memphis Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes. Fisher and Barnes have famously fought over Govan, first with fists, then over social media.

Barnes — never one to hold his tongue or his temper — no doubt will have something to say on this matter.
