Thursday night was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

After allowing three two-run home runs to the Colorado Rockies, Clay Buchholz has lost his spot in the Boston Red Sox’s rotation, manager John Farrell announced Thursday. For now, he’ll pitch out of the bullpen, but that’s likely not his ultimate destination. So, what are the Red Sox’s hopes?

Farrell mentioned Thursday that he believes Buchholz’s confidence likely is shaken. On Friday, he added that he hopes Buchholz can embrace the change and gain some “momentum” toward eventually rejoining the rotation should his number be called.
