BOSTON — Kevin Millar never has been shy about speaking up. But on Thursday night, he addressed quite a bigger audience.

The former Major League Baseball first baseman, now an MLB Network analyst, was at Fenway Park with the network’s crew for Thursday’s Red Sox-Houston Astros matchup.

Millar, who spent three seasons with the Red Sox from 2003 to 2005, is quite the folk hero in Boston, having helped the lovable 2004 team claim the franchise’s first World Series title since 1918. So when David Ortiz, the only remaining member of that ’04 club, stepped up to bat in the first inning, Fenway’s public address announcer handed Millar the reins for a special surprise.

We would tell Millar not to quit his day job, but his introduction for Ortiz wasn’t half bad.

Unfortunately for Boston, Big Papi went down on strikes after his good friend called him to the plate. But Ortiz made Millar proud in his very next at-bat, scorching a ground-rule double to center field for his 599th career two-bagger.
