Larry Fitzgerald Won’t Shed Tears If Tom Brady Misses Patriots-Cardinals

If Tom Brady misses the New England Patriots’ 2016 season opener against the Arizona Cardinals because of his Deflategate suspension, it’ll be quite all right with wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

It’s nothing personal. By all accounts, Fitzgerald and Brady have a good relationship. Brady still is at the top of his game despite turning 39 this summer, though. Fitzgerald and the Cardinals undoubtedly will have a better chance of earning a victory Week 1 if the Patriots are without their star quarterback.

“C’mon man. I think that’s a pretty easy question to answer,” Fitzgerald said Tuesday, according to ESPN.com, when asked if he wants to see Brady on the field for their Sept. 11 matchup in Arizona. “I love Tom. That’s my man. But if he doesn’t play, I wouldn’t shed any tears. I’d love to see him back the next week, though.”

Brady, of course, is facing a four-game suspension for his alleged involvement in Deflategate. The Pats QB still is fighting the ban, but there’s a chance New England will be forced to open the season with Jimmy Garoppolo at the helm.

The Patriots play the Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills over the first four weeks of the 2016 season.
