Minor League Manager Jumps Around, Throws Hat Into Crowd Amid Meltdown

Ron Johnson really knows how to exit the building.

The Norfolk Tides manager wasn’t happy about a call during the seventh inning of Tuesday’s 4-3 loss to the Charlotte Knights. As such, he stomped around like a mad man at second base.

But that’s not all Johnson had up his sleeve. Clearly hot under the collar, he fired his hat into the crowd while returning to the dugout.

There have been better baseball tirades in the past. It’s not like Johnson, who once served as a manager in the Red Sox organization before spending two seasons as Boston’s first base coach in 2010 and 2011, was out firing pretend grenades or throwing equipment all over the joint. And from as far as we can tell, he didn’t go all David Ortiz on any dugout phones.

But it still was an admirable way to leave the field — if you’re into the whole ticked-off manager thing.
