The Pittsburgh Penguins are three wins away from raising Lord Stanley’s Cup, thanks to Nick Bonino.

The Penguins took Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final against the San Jose Sharks on Monday night in a 3-2 thriller. Bonino scored the winning goal with under three minutes remaining in regulation in Pittsburgh.

The Penguins grabbed a quick lead, scoring two goals in 61 seconds midway through the first quarter. Rookies Bryan Rust and Conor Sheary scored for Pittsburgh.

The Sharks rallied to tie the game in the second period with two goals of their own from Tomas Hertl and Patrick Marleau.

Both goaltenders were good. Penguins rookie Matt Murray stopped 24 of 26 shots and moved a bit closer to history in the process.

Sharks goalie Martin Jones was terrific overall, stopping 38 shots — including all five on the power play — but it wasn’t enough to steal a road win.

Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET.
