The only man who’s hit more home runs in a Red Sox uniform than David Ortiz is Ted Williams.
Big Papi blasted his 453rd career Red Sox home run during the third inning of Sunday’s game against the New York Yankees in the Bronx. The blast moved him ahead of Sox legend Carl Yastrzemski and into sole possession of second place on the franchise’s career home run list.
Ortiz added another home run in the seventh inning, the 512th of his career (counting his time in Minnesota) to pass Mel Ott and tying both Eddie Matthews and Ernie Banks on the all-time home run leaders list.

One of Ortiz’s former teammates appeared to enjoy the moment, too.

Ortiz probably won’t reach Williams’ team record of 521 homers, although he could pass him on the overall all-time list, as there’s a great chance the Red Sox slugger will reach the 30-home run mark for the 10th time.
He already has nine home runs (two on Sunday night) and 26 RBIs through 29 games.
