Those making their afternoon iced coffee run in Warwick, R.I., on Monday received quite the special treat.

That’s because Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts took a break from his day job as the American League’s best hitter to pull a shift at the Warwick Dunkin’ Donuts in honor of “National Iced Coffee Day.”

Bogaerts showed up at Dunkin’ Donuts’ Warwick Avenue store and got right to work, taking surprised commuters’ orders at the drive-thru.

Bogaerts also put in some work at the front counter — with a little help from Wally the Green Monster, of course.

Xander’s extra work was for a special cause, as well: Dunkin’ Donuts will donate $1 from every iced coffee sold Monday to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, R.I. The efforts raised about $160,000 for the hospital last year.
