FOXBORO, Mass. — Reporters have yet to see Rob Gronkowski take the field this offseason, and the exact reason for his continued absence remains unclear.

The New England Patriots tight end again was nowhere to be seen Wednesday for Day 2 of mandatory minicamp after also missing both Day 1 on Tuesday and the lone organized team activities session that has been open to media.

ESPN.com’s Mike Reiss and the Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe both reported Tuesday night, citing sources, that the Patriots simply are being cautious with their four-time All-Pro as Gronkowski deals with a minor ailment.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick neither confirmed nor denied those reports Wednesday, responding to a prompt for comment with a simple “Nope.”

Gronkowski is one of several prominent Patriots who have yet to practice in front of the media this summer, with Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, LaGarrette Blount, Duron Harmon, Logan Ryan, Nate Solder and Sebastian Vollmer all landing on that list, as well.

Seventeen players, including four who practiced Tuesday, were not present at Wednesday’s minicamp session.
