FOXBORO, Mass. — Jhasmani Campos should take free kicks in all our soccer dreams.
The Bolivia midfielder scored a sensational free-kick goal Friday in Bolivia’s Copa America 2016 Group D game against Chile. Campos rifled a powerful set-piece from around 30 yards out past goalkeeper Claudio Bravo to tie the score at 1-1.
Campos only had entered the game as a substitute two minutes prior to scoring in the 60th minute. But his goal had everything you’d want in a free-kick: power, accuracy, swerve and outright audacity.
Campos, 28, plays his club soccer for Kazma Sporting Club in far-flung Kuwait, but he’ll be a national hero and local soccer legend if his goal helps Bolivia snatch a result against Chile, the defending Copa America champion.
Take a bow, Jhasmani Campos. You lit up Gillette Stadium with one swing of your left leg.
