The Montreal Canadiens were busy Friday night, making two trades shortly after the start of the 2016 NHL Draft.

In one, Montreal acquired forward Andrew Shaw from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for the 39th and 45th picks in this year’s draft.

The other involved future picks, with the Canadiens dealing center Lars Eller to the Washington Capitals for a second-round selection in 2017 and another in 2018.

All but seven of Eller’s 442 NHL games have come in a Habs jersey. He’d been with Montreal since 2010, totaling 71 goals and 83 assists over his six seasons with the team.

Eller played in 79 games this season, tallying 13 goals and 13 assists.
