Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Carl Crawford was designated for assignment Sunday by the Los Angeles Dodgers. The four-time All-Star is hitting .240 since the beginning of the 2015 season and is batting just .185 through 30 games in 2016.

The 34-year-old signed a seven-year, $142 million contract with the Boston Red Sox before the 2011 season after arguably the best season of his career in 2010 with the Tampa Bay Rays. Since then, Crawford has never even remotely lived up to those figures, and never missed fewer than 32 games in a season.

He eventually was traded to the Dodgers in an August 2012 trade along with Josh Beckett, Adrian Gonzalez and Nick Punto.

Crawford still has approximately $35 million left on his contract, for which the Dodgers are on the hook to pay. Should he clear waivers, he can sign with any team at a prorated amount of the veteran’s minimum while still receiving checks from L.A.
