The Chanticleers are No. 1.

Coastal Carolina defeated Arizona 4-3 in Game 3 of the College World Series on Thursday to win the first national championship in any sport in school history.

Coastal led by two runs entering the ninth inning, but the Wildcats rallied to score a run and had the tying run on third base and the winning run on second base with one out. Alex Cunningham shut down Arizona, though, and tossed his glove in celebration after he struck out Ryan Haug to clinch the championship.

It’s been an incredible run in the NCAA Tournament for Coastal Carolina, which doesn’t feature any top prospects and was the No. 19 team in the preseason rankings.

CCU finished with four players on the All-Tournament team.
