Klay Thompson’s Dad Ate Burgers, Watched WWE During Warriors-Thunder Game 7

Monday night’s Golden State Warriors-Oklahoma City Thunder game was the NBA’s highest-rated cable telecast of all time. It also was most-watched program in TNT history, with an estimated 19.9 million viewers tuning in to watch the Warriors prevail in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals.

Klay Thompson’s dad, however, was not one of them.

The father of the Golden State sharpshooter told ESPN Radio’s “Thompson & Trudel” on Tuesday he was so nervous that rather than watch the game live, he recorded it to watch after the outcome already had been decided.

How’d Mychal Thompson pass the time, then? By taking a trip to In-N-Out Burger and watching an episode WWE’s “Monday Night Raw.”

“I went to In-N-Out to grab a burger and I couldn’t eat it, so I had to let it sit there for three hours,” Thompson told the radio show. “I was too nervous.”

“I was watching wrestling, knowing that the game was going on,” he added. “So that was to take my mind off of the game a little bit.”

The elder Thompson had nothing to worry about. Klay scored 21 points, and the Warriors knocked off the Thunder 96-88 to complete one of the most memorable comebacks in NBA playoff history and book a trip to their second consecutive Finals.
