During the height of his NBA career, Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics wrote one of many chapters in the never-ending book of Cleveland heartbreak, defeating the Cavaliers in the 2008 and 2010 NBA playoffs.

Prior to Thursday night’s NBA Finals opener between the Cavs and the Golden State Warriors, Pierce made a guest appearance on “NBA Countdown.” The 2008 Finals MVP opined that a Cleveland championship would be an extremely remarkable feat, but it sort of came out like a backhanded compliment.

“I never thought in my lifetime that Cleveland would ever win a championship,” Pierce said. “I always thought certain franchises in this league have dark clouds over them.”

But almost immediately after categorizing the Cavs as a “dark cloud” franchise, Pierce picked the Cavaliers to beat the Warriors in six games when asked for his prediction.

The Cavaliers dropped Game 1 to the Warriors.

So as of now, the silver lining is slowly disappearing as the dark cloud hangs over Cleveland.
