The Boston Red Sox found some nice value with their second-round pick Thursday night.
Boston selected shortstop C.J. Chatham out of Florida Atlantic University with the 51st overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft.
The 6-foot-4 Chatham is a converted shortstop. The 21-year-old was an outfielder in high school before , and as a pitcher hit 90 mph on the radar gun. He’ll likely begin his professional career at short, but his versatility gives the Red Sox plenty of options to fully utilize his skill set. He’s a good contact hitter, but he doesn’t project to hit for much power.

The Red Sox selected left-handed pitcher Jason Groome in the first round with the 12th overall pick.
