The 30th anniversary of the 1986 NBA Finals is ongoing.

The Boston Celtics and Houston Rockets battled for basketball glory in an exciting six-game series from May 26 through June 8.

After easily winning the first two games of the series at Boston Garden, the Celtics traveled to Houston and were beaten by the Rockets in Game 3.

The Rockets had defeated the favored Los Angeles Lakers twice at home during the Western Conference finals, and they were hopeful of a repeat performance in Game 4 on June 3. But Boston played well down the stretch in the fourth quarter and earned a 106-103 victory to take a commanding 3-1 series lead.

Larry Bird, Dennis Johnson, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish all scored 19 or more points, and backup center Bill Walton chipped in 10 points off the Celtics bench.

The Celtics lost Game 5, but they closed the series with a Game 6 rout to win their 16th championship in franchise history and cement their place as the greatest team in NBA history.
