We’ll go out on a limb and say the Tampa Bay Lighting’s new deal for star center Steven Stamkos won’t go down as a bust, but not all NHL marriages are as lucky.

Even Hall of Famers aren’t immune.

For example, take former Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers great Mark Messier, whose three-year stint with the Vancouver Canucks underwhelmed and ended in a messy divorce.

But he’s far from the only bad free agent signing in NHL history. Far from it.
