The funny thing about basketball is that while it’s not played on ice skates, some of the sport’s best players make their opponents look like it is. Tristan Thompson is just the latest example.
For whatever reason, the 6-foot-9 Cleveland Cavaliers forward was stumbling and bumbling his way around the 3-point line guarding two-time defending NBA MVP Stephen Curry early in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday. The Golden State Warriors star typically doesn’t need much space to shoot his lethal long-range shot, and he is one of the best at finding ways to create it.
But this … this was just too simple.
As ABC analyst and former Warriors coach Mark Jackson said: “Hand down, man down.”
That was a microcosm of the first half, as the defending champs jumped out to a 14-point lead in the second quarter thanks to seven Cleveland turnovers.
