The Major League Baseball non-waiver trade deadline is about a month away, and many teams across the league still are trying to figure out their true potential for the 2016 season.

The second wild card in each league means more teams remain in contention down the stretch, but does a club on the fence really want to mortgage its future if a deep playoff run seems like a long shot? A franchise in such a situation might be better off selling pieces to ensure its long-term success.

The Boston Red Sox are one team eyeing the postseason — perhaps a World Series run — despite their June swoon. They have some areas they need to address in the coming weeks and months, though, or else they could find themselves sitting at home at playoff time for the third consecutive year.

The second episode of “The Dish” — NESN.com’s new baseball web series that will air throughout the 2016 season — looks at MLB’s potential buyers and sellers, as well as Boston’s overall outlook, with the July 31 deadline sneaking up. NESN studio analyst Steve Lyons also shares which Red Sox players he believes will earn a trip to this year’s All-Star Game.

All of the baseball goodness can be found in the video above, and be sure to check back with NESN.com and NESN’s YouTube page throughout the MLB season for more of “The Dish.”
