Madison BumgarnerWhen the Boston Red Sox square off against Madison Bumgarner on Wednesday night, they’ll have to worry about more than just the San Francisco Giants pitcher’s arm.

Bumgarner, who will take the mound opposite David Price in a battle of aces at AT&T Park, is a well-established pitcher, entering Wednesday’s game with a 7-2 record and a glistening 1.92 ERA.

But he also packs a punch in the batter’s box. Despite sporting a .156 batting average, the 6-foot-5 left-hander already has two home runs in 32 at-bats this season and has blasted 11 homers in his last 190 plate appearances, a pace that as of last week had him on par with the likes of Bryce Harper and Mike Trout.

That’s pretty impressive for a pitcher, and Bumgarner’s prowess at the plate has him considering a cameo in this year’s Home Run Derby.

But before we anoint MadBum the next Babe Ruth, we figured we’d put his hitting “success” in historical context. Check out the link below to see some of the best hitting pitchers of all time.
