Boston Bruins winger Brad Marchand is coming off the best season of his NHL career, and the team wants to keep him in the fold beyond next year.

Marchand is entering the final season of a four-year, $18 million contract. It’s been one of the most team-friendly deals in the league.

He scored a career-high 37 goals last season, in addition to his excellent penalty killing and ability to drive puck possession at a high rate.

Marchand has become one of Boston’s most valuable players, and his partnership with linemate Patrice Bergeron has formed one of the league’s most effective two-way duos. Marchand also played a vital role in the Bruins’ 2011 Stanley Cup championship run by scoring 11 goals in 25 games, including two goals in Game 7 of the Cup Final against the Vancouver Canucks.
