The new kids on the block could only watch as Phil Mickelson turned in a vintage performance in the first round of the British Open.
Mickelson was one brutal lip-out away from recording the first ever 62 at a major, but he still carded an impressive 8-under-63, which put him three shots ahead of Patrick Reed and Martin Kaymer heading into Friday’s second round.
But while Mickelson tore up Royal Troon, world No. 1 golfer Jason Day is dangerously close to missing the cut.
You can watch all of Friday’s second-round action on Golf Channel or on NBC Sports Live Extra starting at 1:30 a.m.
