Bobby Orr follows the NHL as closely as anyone these days as an agent for some of the best young players, and he’s concerned with how dangerous the game has become.

“I think the center line, with the size of our players and the speed of our players, we’re shooting the puck from the goal line to the other blue line,” the Boston Bruins legend told Gino Reda during a TSN interview Tuesday. “Guys are going through the middle looking back for passes. I think our game has become more dangerous.”

Orr speaks from a position of authority on pretty much every hockey topic imaginable. This one is no different. In fact, the breathtaking speed at which Orr played the game was a contributor to the knee injuries that ultimately ended his career in the mid-1970s.

And quite frankly, he’s right. The game is too fast, and the red line debate should be revisited soon. General managers debated the red line at their annual meetings in 2012, but there wasn’t enough support to bring it back.
