It appears Chris Sale might not make his next start, either.
The Chicago White Sox ace, who was scratched from his start Saturday night after an argument with management went oddly awry, received a five-day suspension from the team Sunday. The White Sox announced they also fined Sale an undisclosed amount.
White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said the team’s Thursday starter, which normally would be Sale, will be listed as TBA for now, according to the team’s official website.
The blowup in the White Sox clubhouse Saturday reportedly started with Sale having an issue over the throwback uniforms the team was supposed to wear during their game against the Detroit Tigers. Sale apparently didn’t want to wear the uniforms because the jersey collar was uncomfortable for him to pitch in, so, according to The Score’s Julie DiCaro, he used a knife to cut the jerseys so no one could wear them.
The White Sox already were listening to trade offers for Sale, and FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman reported earlier Saturday that the team wanted “five top prospects” in return. The suspension likely won’t affect teams’ interest in the left-hander, who’s 14-3 with a 3.18 ERA, but it might cause them to ask for a sale on their asking price.
