BOSTON — David Price will try to put the past behind him when he toes the rubber Tuesday night.
The veteran left-hander gets the start for the Red Sox’s game against the Texas Rangers at Fenway Park. Price has allowed a total of 10 runs and 21 hits in just 10 innings of work over his last two starts, ballooning his ERA to 4.74 ahead of his final outing before the All-Star break.
“The biggest thing with David is, like any pitcher, to pitch to quality locations and execute,” Red Sox manager John Farrell said before Tuesday’s game. “… He’s made some mistakes, particularly in the middle of the plate with his two-seamer against some right-handers that have leaked back to the middle. So, we’re doing what we can to minimize those mistakes.”
Veteran catcher Ryan Hanigan was activated from the 15-day disabled list earlier Tuesday, but Sandy Leon will bat ninth and do the catching for Price.
The Rangers will counter Price with right-hander A.J. Griffin, who sports a 2.93 ERA in 43 innings pitched this season.
