Patriots Rookie QB Jacoby Brissett Relays Best Advice From Tom Brady

FOXBORO, Mass. — When pressed for the best advice he’s received from fellow New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Jimmy Garoppolo came up blank Thursday.

Garoppolo hemmed and hawed and eventually told the reporter he would get back to him about it.

Jacoby Brissett was better prepared Friday.

“‘One day at a time'” Brissett relayed. “Just watching him and Jimmy operate and seeing how they operate faster, trying to get up to their speed.”

It seems Brady and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels are in sync. Brissett said the best piece of advice he’s received from McDaniels also was “one day at a time.”

Brissett has been impressive since being selected in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He’s looked more poised than most rookie quarterbacks in his first set of organized team activities, minicamp and training camp sessions. It certainly helps to be learning from Brady and Garoppolo, who have plenty of experience in the Patriots’ system.

“It’s great,” Brissett said. “We’ve got a great group, and it’s all helping each other and trying to get better each day. … They’ve been through this. They’ve been a great asset to have, and our room has been great.”

Brissett went 4 of 7 in 11-on-11 drills Friday and was 18 of 30 with an interception overall. He was 3 of 6 in 11-on-11s Thursday and went 14 of 27 overall. The intensity could pick up for Brissett this weekend, when the Patriots strap on the pads for the first time this year.
