Somehow, Johnny Manziel has managed to stay out of negative headlines this summer.

The former Cleveland Browns quarterback told TMZ that he was planning on sobering up after July 1, and it appears he’s not only keeping his word, but also getting swole.

Manziel shared a photo and video on Instagram of workout sessions in Hawaii.

A couple of social media posts aren’t exactly going to get NFL teams salivating for Manziel’s services, but at least it’s a step in the right direction.

That is until Manziel released a statement to the Washington Post announcing that his sobriety isn’t permanent.

“I’m actually doing well,” he said. “I have good friends around me supporting what I do, and I try to support them in what they want to do. I’m not saying I’m never drinking again, but for now just mostly being healthy. I’ve got a killer gym in my house and I can spend time working out. I’m interested in doing a lot of different things in my life — including football — but, right now, I’m just exploring options and waiting to see what the future holds.”

It’s good to see Manziel trying to get his life in order, but omitting the line, “I’m not saying I’m never drinking again” probably could’ve done him some favors in terms of repairing his image.
