The San Antonio Spurs weren’t able to sign the major prize of NBA free agency, Kevin Durant, but they appear to have hit on one of the top consolation prizes in power forward Pau Gasol.

Gasol adds mid-range shooting, good low-post defense and rebounding to a Spurs front line that already includes LaMarcus Aldridge, Boris Diaw and Tim Duncan (assuming he doesn’t retire).

The 15-year veteran averaged 16.5 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks per game last season. He should fit right in with San Antonio’s team-first culture.
