UPDATE (2:18 p.m. ET): The Edmonton Oilers officially announced they have signed Milan Lucic to a seven-year contract. Financial terms weren’t disclosed, although previous reports said the deal was worth $42 million.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Edmonton Oilers foolishly traded top-line left winger Taylor Hall on Wednesday, but it appears they’ve acquired his replacement.
The Oilers have signed free agent winger Milan Lucic, per TSN’s Pierre LeBrun. Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet reported the terms of the deal.
Lucic, 28, re-joins Oilers general manager Peter Chiarelli, who held the same title in Boston for the entirety of the winger’s Bruins career from 2006 through 2015. Andrew Ference, a former Bruins teammate who’s now in Edmonton, seemed to like the Lucic move.
Lucic spent last season with the Los Angeles Kings and tallied 55 points (20 goals, 35 assists) in 81 games.
The Montreal Canadiens and Lucic’s hometown Vancouver Canucks reportedly were among the teams that had interest in signing him.
