OGC Nice mourns along with its fans, countrymen and people of goodwill around the world.
The French soccer team issued a statement in the aftermath of the Nice, France, attack, in which 84 people died and at least 50 more were critically wounded Thursday during a celebration of Bastille Day.
“A tragedy plunged our city into mourning last night, just after the July 14th fireworks display that brought thousands of Nissarts (as local residents are known) and tourists together on the Promenade des Anglais.
“It left us shocked, horrified and outraged.
“Hurt deep inside us, OGC Nice mourn the victims of this atrocity and extend our support to their friends and families as well as all the people affected by this tragic event, directly and indirectly.”
French President Francois Hollande described the tragedy as a “terrorist act,” according to The Associated Press.
France hosted the 2016 UEFA European Championship this summer amid a state of emergency and warnings of terror attacks. Euro 2016 came and went without incident in that regard, but France suffered another blow just four days after the conclusion of the tournament.
