Phil Mickelson Angrily Snaps At British Open Cameraman Who Disrupts His Swing

Phil Mickelson is having quite the weekend at Royal Troon, but the British Open caused even the tournament’s hottest golfer to lose his cool Saturday.

Mickelson was locked in a tight race for the leaderboard with Henrik Stenson heading into the 18th hole of the third round at the 145th Open. On his second shot, Lefty made a rare mistake by landing his ball in a bunker, but the television broadcast’s audio picked up the sound of several camera clicks just as Mickelson entered his backswing.

The five-time major winner wasn’t too happy with the distraction, and he let the cameraman know. (Warning: Video contains some explicit language.)

“That’s so (expletive) to do that,” Mickelson is heard saying. “I can’t believe that. I get you’ve got to cover (the Open), but why do you have to interfere with it?”

Mickelson has a pretty valid point here, as the camera clicks are pretty audible and clearly distracted him from his shot. The cameraman has a job to do, of course, but as Mickelson made clear, that job certainly shouldn’t interfere with play on the course.

This mild outburst aside, Mickelson entered Sunday one stroke off Stenson’s lead, and the two golfers look poised for a, err, photo finish.
