Red Sox Midseason Report Card: Positional Grades, Analysis For First Half

The Boston Red Sox have come a long way from their dismal 2015 campaign. But there’s still plenty of work to be done.

The Red Sox enter Major League Baseball’s 2016 All-Star break 11 games over .500 at 49-38. They’re just two games behind the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East and are in the thick of the AL Wild Card race.

That’s quite an improvement from last season, when Boston entered the break five games below .500 and ultimately finished in the division’s cellar.

Yet offseason acquisitions and the improvement of the team’s young core have raised expectations in 2016, and it’s time to see how they’ve lived up to the hype.

With baseball’s unofficial midway point upon us, we’re busting out the red pens and grading the Red Sox’s first half of the season by each position. Some areas passed with flying colors, while others might need some, er, schooling.
