The Boston Red Sox have scored 22 runs in their past two games, and it’s been enough to get two big wins against American League West foes.
Boston overcame a four-run deficit in the first inning en route to a 12-5 win on Independence Day at Fenway Park.
Here’s how it happened.
GAME IN A WORD
Fireworks.
The Red Sox put on a fireworks display a few hours before Boston’s big Fourth of July event and belted out a season-high 22 hits.
ON THE MOUND
— Rick Porcello’s day started off in a bad way.
Boston’s starter gave up four runs (three earned) in a rocky first inning on four straight singles with two outs. Porcello settled down after that, though, and pitched five scoreless innings to keep Boston — and its bullpen — in the game.
— Matt Barnes threw a scoreless seventh inning.
— Koji Uehara gave up two hits and a solo home run (to Rougned Odor) in just 1/3 of an inning in the eighth. He was removed from the game in favor of Robbie Ross Jr., who closed out the final 1 2/3 innings of work in the win.
AT THE PLATE
— Every member of the starting lineup had a hit.
— Sandy Leon led the way, going 4-for-5 with three doubles and a run scored. He’s now batting .500 on the season.
— Dustin Pedroia, Travis Shaw and Xander Bogaerts all had three hits and combined for four RBIs.
— Pedroia, Shaw, Brock Holt and Mookie Betts all homered.
— Jackie Bradley Jr. and Holt were the only members of the lineup to record just a single hit. They both scored a run and drove in two runs, though.
TWEET OF THE DAY
The Jonas Brothers were rocking out at Fenway Park. Nick will perform Monday night at Boston’s Fourth of July event.
