The Major League Baseball All-Star break gives each team an opportunity to rest, readjust and focus on closing the season strong with a productive second half. It also allows us, as fans, to recalibrate.

The first half of the 2016 season featured some surprises, both individually and organizationally, and there’s no telling what will happen during the dog days of summer and into October. Some clubs appear to have an inside track on a playoff berth, but we’ve seen crazy things happen before.

The Boston Red Sox are one such team eyeing a trip to the postseason after back-to-back last-place finishes in the American League East. They’ll face some stiff competition down the stretch, though, as the division-leading Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays also have started strong.

The third episode of “The Dish” — NESN.com’s new baseball web series that will air throughout the 2016 season — looks at some MLB midseason awards and makes leaguewide predictions for the second half. The Red Sox’s status also is a hot topic of discussion, as NESN.com’s staff examines which players shined for Boston over the first three-plus months and how the team might fare from here on out.

All of the baseball fun can be found in the video above, and be sure to check back with NESN.com and NESN’s YouTube page throughout the MLB season for more of “The Dish.”
