Craig Sager is accustomed to shining the spotlight on some of the sports world’s biggest stars, but the script was flipped Wednesday night.
ESPN honored the longtime NBA on TNT sideline commentator by giving him the Jimmy V award at the ESPYs. Sager won the award for the courage and perseverance he has shown during his ongoing fight against leukemia, as he battles his third round of the terminal cancer.
Vice President Joe Biden, whose son died of cancer earlier this year, presented Sager with the award. Before Sager took the stage, ESPN showed a video following Sager as he went through chemo treatment — on the same day he covered an NBA playoffs game in San Antonio later that night.
Sager then accepted the award and delivered a powerful and emotional speech. Watch the entire segment in the video below.
